Our Mission: The Division of Surgical Oncology & Endocrine Surgery at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC) offers screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for patients with malignant and benign tumors.

Cancer surgery is considered complex, and still remains the foundation of cancer management. Recent published data have demonstrated that high volume experience by surgeons with specific operations have the lowest complication and mortality rates. Our surgical oncologists have undergone additional specialty training in oncology, and offer an unparalleled level of specialization and expertise for patients throughout the South Texas region. All of the surgeons in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery are on the faculty of the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.

Cancer is best managed in a multidisciplinary approach by a team of health care professionals who have a sufficient number of patients to develop the experience necessary to provide excellent care.

CTRC is a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only one in San Antonio, Texas. Our surgical oncologists work together with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, genetic counselors, nutritionists, oncology nursing staff and social workers to elaborate personalized cancer treatment plans. Patients benefit from discussion of their treatment plans in multidisciplinary weekly tumor board conferences and from innovative treatment protocols and clinical trials.
